A bit about us
We are a very friendly group of mixed ages and we welcome all women over the age of eighteen. For some it is a lovely way to meet new friends, for others it is a great opportunity to build on your skills and to make a difference in your community. We don't just make jam and sing Jerusalem! We have a varied annual calendar, which you will find on our Meetings and Events page.
Our Meetings
Our WI is one of two groups in Horbury, we meet on the third Friday of the month at 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the Cluntergate Centre in Horbury (WF4 5DA). We have a committee of volunteers who are dedicated to running a fun and friendly group for the benefit of all ladies in the local area. The group is a registered charity and it operates under the Constitution and Rules of the National Women’s Institute.
To join the group, there is an annual subscription due in April, which is reduced pro rata each quarter for new members. A percentage of the subs go to the National WI, a further percentage goes to the West Yorkshire regional WI and the remaining percentage is kept by the local group, which we use to provide 11 free meetings throughout the year.
Further information about the National WI can be found on their website at www.thewi.org.uk.
You may visit our group up to three times without joining the WI and just contribute £5 per meeting. There is no charge for refreshments, but you may wish to contribute to the prize raffle or the food bank, which we collect for at every meeting.
The committee incorporate the responsibilities of being part of the National WI along with the needs and interests of our members. New members are always welcome and if you are new to the area or would just like to meet someone ahead of the meeting, then just let us know. Our method of communication with members is via our Website, Facebook group and WhatsApp. We also send information emails to our members prior to each meeting.
